The Differences Between the Industry and our Unique Approach

Two Veterans of Foundation Repair Industry Describe the Differences Between the Industry and our Unique Approach

Recently, existing members of our amazing Sales Team were joined by two experienced Consultants from another provider of foundation repair services here locally in Arizona. Coming right out of the gate, these guys have been Superstars in our organization. In recent blogs, I have made the point that we have devised better mousetrap on behalf of the homeowners in terms of foundation repair procedures and a unique culture for it to thrive in. Rather than point out the shortcomings of their former employer, I ask them to highlight positive differences they have noticed coming to work for our organization.

RK Bob: Why have you chosen a career in foundation repair?

Cam Altree-1

Cam Altree: I have always been in construction and used to have my own company in home automation for over ten years. When I was getting ready to sell my company I had a friendly competitor tell me about an opening in the foundation repair trade. This peaked my interest since I have always liked thinking outside the box and coming up with creative solutions.

Tim Schirra

Tim Schirra: I have chosen a career in foundation repair because I enjoy helping people in high stress situations. The enjoyment I get from helping people from stress to a sense of peace is a great feeling. I find that most people are very afraid when I first meet them and by the end of the process, they can focus on the things in life that make them happy.

RK Bob: What attracted you to our organization in the 1st place?

Tim Schirra: What attracted me to AZ Foundation Solutions was the entire system. For 8 years, I worked for a competitor. In that 8 years, I put together 100% of the repair plans without any engineering input. I spent many years trying to get them to model AZ Foundation Solutions process without success. Allowing the Engineers to do what they do best (diagnose problems and design repair plans) and allow me to help customers make decisions on what’s best for them and their families. Because my former company wouldn’t budge on their system, I made the move to AZ Foundation Solutions.

Cam Altree: I was actually in the (Supportworks) network back when I lived in Portland, OR. When I moved to Arizona I had reached out to AZFS but my email must have gotten lost in the fray so I went to work for the competition. One weekend while working at a home show I went over to Bob’s booth and introduced myself. We had a nice chat and traded contact info. I don’t like to move from one company to the next, however after seeing how the competition operates and giving it sometime it was clear that there is a much better way to do things.

RK Bob: You have both in a part of the “one call close” methodology that is standard in the industry as well as now our system which we have developed…. that separates engineering and sales functions. How do you see the advantages between the 2 systems playout?

Tim Schirra: The “one call close” methodology is why I left my former company. The ability to help people through the process and allow them to make a decision based on a licensed Civil Engineers recommendation is amazing. When the engineering team puts a repair plan together, they don’t care about profit. They care about what the proper repair would be to solve the customer’s foundation problems.

Cam Altree: There is a clear benefit to having the solution engineered from the onset of the project to ensure that the repair plan is correct and the customers goals are at the forefront.

RK Bob: Can you give me some examples that highlight those differences?

Tim Schirra: I have seen many repairs that the consultant put together for a homeowner that didn’t fix the issue. I have seen people take loans that will put them in debt for decades into the future based on the opinion of a non-licensed consultant. The only way to properly fix soil and structural foundation issues is to have a licensed engineer put the repair plan together and stamp the plan.

Cam Altree: I helped investigate a pool that had severe performance problems. The company I was with chose not to utilize a licensed engineer to understand the unique problems on this project or to use their input in developing the repair plan. Because of this the repairs did not function as hoped and the entire pool had to be demolished. It’s an important demonstration of the value in understanding the problem more thoroughly with professional engineering before developing the repair plan.

RK Bob: What is unique to our culture that gives us in advantage over our competitors?

Cam Altree: There is not one thing that can compare to the cultural differences between companies. The other company provides zero training, support, accolades or even room for growth, the list could go on and on.

Tim Schirra: Our culture is unique (it should be this way for all foundation companies) because we care more about outcome than profit. Bob Brown has set the standard that we do what’s right for customers and treat their money like it’s ours. The reality is short term greed will destroy a company’s long-term outlook. We are not a nonprofit company so making a fair profit is important but not at the expense of our customers.

RK Bob: One of the advantages of our organization is the support we receive from our supplying stakeholders… Supportworks and Contractor Nation. Can you share how you perceive the difference in support?

Cam Altree: We are given continued education, product knowledge and any possible training of every aspect of what we represent from Supportworks and Contractor Nation. Having personally asked for training when I was with the competition and being told it wasn’t necessary, there couldn’t be more of a stark contrast in difference. This network is simply unbeatable and un-paralleled when it comes to Redefining the industry.

Tim Schirra: One of the biggest differences between my former company and AZ Foundation Solutions is the support we receive. Not only do we have an owner who has been doing this for a very long time with vast knowledge, we have a network (Supportworks and Contractor Nation) that consistently helps us with training. Technology is constantly changing, and new methods are being developed to help our customers. Our network is in the forefront of training and that results in us always being ahead of our competition. The bottom line is, the more educated I am, the more I can educate our customers.
